Known for its sweet tea and southern charm, Summerville, South Carolina can now add pickleball to its list of city attractions.
In response to the many hardships facing the country in 2020, the Sparkling Ice team decided to spread some sparkle and cheer across America by partnering with three small towns whose parks and recreational areas needed rebuilding, restoration or enhancements.
For the latest Cheers to You Town Beautification Project, the Sparkling Ice team partnered with the City of Summerville to install the city’s first pickleball courts that are free and available to the public.
The new pickleball courts, located at Doty Park, were unveiled to the community during a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by the city mayor, a group of council members, and the parks and recreation team. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the community was invited to participate in a small, socially-distanced round robin tournament in celebration of the opening of the new courts.
“On behalf of Sparkling Ice, we are thrilled to partner with the City of Summerville on this beautification project,” said Nina Morrison, VP of Public Relations at Talking Rain. “With the installment of the new pickleball courts, we hope to spread a little joy during a difficult year and give the community of Summerville another opportunity to safely enjoy the outdoors.”
